BAM is focused on the formation of a summer reading group/book club to read and discuss "Reparations: A Christian Call to Repentance and Repair" by Duke Kwon and Gregory Thompson. This will run from June through August 2026 and will include two virtual discussion meetings for people of color. Our goal is to create an enriching space specifically for Black African and Caribbean members of our community, allowing participants to engage deeply with the book's themes and context. We encourage allies who are interested to host similar reading and discussion groups around the book's important messages.
We envision that these discussions will not only foster a sense of belonging and empowerment among participants but also encourage thoughtful reflections on reparative justice within the diocese, wider church, and our broader society. We are committed to providing a platform for the voices of the global majority and ensuring that their experiences and perspectives are valued. We hope to expand our discussions to include provincial and diocesan levels to further engagement, discussion, and collaboration on reparations and reconciliation.
We plan to partner with Sacred Waters, asking them to co-host the BAM reading groups on their virtual platform, due to their focus on racial reconciliation.
