Province VIII Update
Questions / Feedback:
Investiture of PB Sean Rowe:
+Mark was on JNCEPB and attended the investiture as such. The Holy Spirit was present! Grateful for the technology that allowed people to participate from all across the Church.
Tim was Chair of logistics for the Investiture service. It was a joyful, intimate-feeling, and inclusive service.
Ron attended as one of the indigenous participants.
Reorganization of TEC: +Mark emphasized that all exist to support one another. While the goal of realignment is to streamline, it is also to extend continuing support and encouragement, with hope for greater adaptivity to the changing church.
Budget: Tim reported that the Budget Committee had to develop a balanced budget for the coming year, resulting in cuts to national staffing.
Communications: Evita stated that the new Communications Coordinator for Province VIII is expected to be hired and working by mid-March in a paid part-time position.
Financials
Jeff M. shared two sets of financials: End-2024 and Jan. 2025.
End-2024: Surplus mainly due to donations from dioceses exceeding initial commitments. Received about $25K more than expected. Unanticipated cost of $8K for a grant to the Diocese of Taiwan enabled their attendance at General Convention. Ended 2024 with approximately a $10K surplus.
Jan. 2025: Contributions from dioceses exceeded expectations, while expenditures were low, typical for early in the calendar year. Cash reserves stand at $160K.
Miller thanked Jeff M. for his professionalism and expertise; Tim concurred.
Evita asked if budgeting is needed for GC2027 gatherings. Tim noted not for GC in general, but possibly for the Synod meeting. Miller suggested a virtual Synod meeting to secure quorum and reduce costs.
Grant Committee
Evita reported that more information regarding grant applications will be forthcoming. A minimum of three dioceses must apply together per grant. The Grant Committee will notify everyone when it is time to apply.
Reports
Reports were submitted prior to the meeting. BAM submitted during the meeting.
Ron provided a verbal report on Indigenous Ministries regarding WinterTalk, noting that 20+ participants from Province VIII attended. The focus was on wholeness, healing, and right relationships.
Breakout Session
Christine noted that breakout rooms were not possible due to the Zoom version. Regarding clusters, the previous structure is no longer in place, but networking between ministries is encouraged.
Closing
Closing Prayer: Eric Metoyer
If you want, I can also convert this into a more blog-friendly, narrative style that reads less like formal minutes and more like an engaging update for your website audience. This would include headings, bold highlights, and smoother transitions. Do you want me to do that?
